Mobile Friendly Website Design In Cumbria

Friends of the Ullswater Way is a local group working with the 5 parishes around the lake. Our aim is to celebrate all that makes the Ullswater Valley special – the grandeur and beauty of its landscape, its history and traditions, the people who live and work here and those who are and have been inspired by the area.

Over the last eighteen months we have been working with local craftspeople and artists to create 9 heritage-themed installations along the Ullswater Way, each celebrating an aspect of the valley, each in harmony with the natural surroundings.  Eight are already in place and we hope the ninth will be completed early in 2018.

We have been collaborating with Ullswater Steamers to add points of interest, including our installations, to the Ullswater Way Walking Trails on the Ullswater Steamers app.

Our first installation was financed by local fundraising and we have subsequently received funding from the The Lake District Communities Fund, The Hadfield Trust, Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust,  United Utilities, The Ullswater Preservation Society, The Wainwright Society, The Wordsworth Trust, The National Trust, Ullswater Steamers and NAV4 Adventure. We have also received help in kind from many local people and many more have offered their time. We are very grateful to all those who have supported us.

We are keen to hear from anyone who would like to be more involved in the Friends of the Ullswater Way, or who have ideas and suggestions. If you would like know more about us, help us with further heritage information, offer your services, or make a donation towards our work please contact us via the Contact Page

Help us raise money for our next Heritage Trail Installation

The Herdwick Stones

We’re raising £1000 to add ‘The Herdwick Stones’ to the existing range of installations on the Ullswater Way Heritage Trail.  The three Herdwick-themed engravings, highlighting the Cumbrian sheep-counting system, will be placed between Gowbarrow and Watermillock. We have funds for Yan (1) but we still need funds for Tyan (2) and Tethera (3).

Please donate to our JustGiving Crowdfunding Page and help make this happen.

Thanks for your support
